Hello,

During the panel replacement, I also removed the old asfaboard. I then discovered that there was a 25cm wide "plastic strip" along the outside of the sill and partway down the plinth/slab.

Is it supposed to be like that? I'm wondering if it would ventilate better without the plastic?

Attached is a picture.

  • Close-up of building wall insulation with a transparent plastic strip partially covering the sill along the foundation; construction debris at the base.
I don't know if it's "normal," but from a construction technical perspective, it is strange to limit a potential outward moisture flow, even if the plastic only covers a small part of the wall. Maybe there's a carpenter who knows?

It protects the sill from water that penetrates the panel during driving rain or due to wind pressure, and then flows down the asphaboard towards the base/sill.

Why remove the asfaboard? I have replaced the panel myself but never removed the asfaboard.

Thank you for your responses!

Some parts of the asfaboard were replaced as some were in poor condition, cracked, etc. Those that were in good condition were left in place.
