Is there any kind soul who could answer what kind of "fabric mat" is lying against the concrete? Could it be that there is asbestos? Thinking about when the house was built.

Welcome to the forum!

Yes, there may be asbestos in both carpets and glue from that time. If you want to know, you have to send in samples for analysis.

If you mean the one that is orange with light fibers, it is probably the backing of a linoleum carpet. Linoleum carpets were common in the 60s.

I was thinking more about the gray/black that is against the concrete, but people told me that it's just a type of paper that is glued to the carpet?

Others have written about there being a cardboard layer under linoleum flooring, so it might be the case for you too.
