Hi

Which is better? We have added extra insulation to the interior of the exterior walls in our old house. Which is better to put up before wallpapering... drywall or particleboard?

I find drywall troublesome when you want to hang something on the walls... what do you think?

Are there other alternatives, though nothing outrageously expensive?

Best regards, Lena

P.S. Thanks also for all the answers and tips I've received so far on all sorts of possible and impossible questions.

Hello!

You must have plaster on the outside, otherwise the wallpaper will crack. Put chipboard, or even better OSB, behind the plaster and the problem is solved!

If the problem with the drywall is that you can't hang pictures with screws or nails, there are special screws called gipsexpander for that purpose.

Check out this page and search for gipsexpander. There are two variants.

Otherwise, I also recommend putting OSB behind the drywall. Then you don't have to hassle so much when you want to hang something.

As Skerfe said: put up both chipboard/ OSB and then plasterboard. We have this throughout our house and do not have a single cracked wallpaper + it's wonderful when you want to hang pictures etc. on the walls.

Plasterboard and OSB/chipboard inside if the budget allows, otherwise just plasterboard,

I am one of those who can't find any faults with Byggmax plasterboard and OSB..
Often half the price compared to Woody or Beijer for example.

However, I remember that their wall filler is hard to sand, or is it Öb's?
There's a big price difference in fillers too, might be worth trying a bucket to start with..

Buy spackling paste from Beckers, they have good prices at K-rauta. Start with the gray can (Lätt Grov) then sand it down and apply the red can (Lätt handspackel). Make sure to spackle widely and use a giraffe for sanding. I made a post about it not too long ago here.

A variety of spackling paste from Beckers

At work, I use LH, the red can, straight off, at home I usually take a cheaper package,
A giraffe is a fantastic tool...
