Renovating two bedrooms upstairs where I have torn off old 70s board panel that was glued onto chipboard. Planning to install 12 or 6mm drywall. What is easiest and fastest; screwing the drywall or gluing it? What type of drywall screws should be used if so? I can only find drywall screws for wood studs or metal, or should it be some special screw? What adhesive is recommended otherwise?

Regular drywall screw works perfectly. It's easier to screw because you don't need to arrange anything to hold the board pressed while the glue dries.

Why wouldn't drywall screws for wood work on particle boards made of just wood..?

They work excellently.
