Hello, I have an old brick wall at home (red brick) and now I want to plaster this wall to hide the bricks. How should I go about getting the plasterboards to stick to the brick? Is preparation with plaster mortar the best way to get it nice and straight, or are there other "simpler" ways to do it? The wall is about 5*5m.

The easiest way is probably to apply gypsum plaster (or another plaster for the purpose) and press the board firmly. The gypsum will adhere to the brick and the board.

a couple of beams to attach the boards to, screws & wall plugs in the brick

Hmm there are different ways to do it.. I think I'll go with plaster as I want to avoid drilling too much into the brick :)

thanks for the answer and Merry Christmas!

Plaster as "glue" behind the plasterboard works excellently, but if the brick is very uneven (as I had) then insert some plugs with screws that you can adjust evenly using a longer spirit level, which allows you to put up the plasterboards straight without bulges. I had "dents" up to 2 cm in the bricks, and my first attempt (without screws) gave me a wavy wall... The alternative to avoid screwing, of course, is to first fill in the unevenness with plaster, let it dry, and then "glue" on the plasterboards.

Hi Anders! You have faced similar problems. Okay, so plugs and a long spirit level to ensure the wall is straight. Thanks!
