Plasterboard in ceiling, nogging in every short joint?

Hello!

I believe I know that there doesn't have to be blocking in every "short side joint" of the gypsum in the ceiling, as long as it's not adjacent to a wall. Is that correct?

Some argue that it is not even necessary to connect to the wall, but if it's easy to get there, I would go for it. (by the wall, that is)

cc30 is what's recommended, even though some claim that cc40 (with 120 board) also works.

The need for cross bracing is not less just because it's in the middle of the ceiling and not at the wall!

However, I can agree that it becomes good enough without cross bracing on the short sides if you go with cc300.

If you are to follow the rules that exist, it is probably the gypsum manufacturer's distance between screws that is guiding, and then 300mm on the short sides is probably not enough.

So if you want to avoid noggings, you just have to lay the boards across the studs.

Oh, good to hear. I've done so in one room, however, time will tell how these joints will look regarding cracks... fingers crossed.
