Why is this mentioned in several descriptions? What am I missing if I don't slam the side facing the fill materials?

I was probably thinking of putting a platon mat between the wall and the fill material.
 
Depends on what you build it with.

I recently built a low retaining wall in Leca, but since I couldn't remove the masses, I didn't coat the back, but had to settle for platon.

The reason for coating, I understand, is to prevent water intrusion in the wall and reduce the risk of frost damage.
 
The slurrying itself is not waterproof, but without it, soil/sand seeps into the leca, which retains moisture better. At least that's my speculation...

exactly. But with a platon/isodrän, it should be unnecessary?
