We are in the process of uncovering a brick fireplace in our vacation home. We are planning to plaster or smooth the wall so that it becomes even. Today, there are some kind of painted bricks, and when we exposed the chimney, it is uneven in some places. I am grateful for suggestions on how to plaster the fireplace on your own without having to use mortar or plaster. Is it possible to use regular sand filler? Or is there another type of filler that is easy to use, such as gypsum plaster?

if one is unaccustomed to plastering and that dictates the choice of material, I would then prefer to use hydraulic lime mortar. It's similar to plastering as well, but it's much easier to improve and alter. It becomes soft and not as hard and permanent as cement plaster. If it goes completely wrong, you can, for example, just take a wire brush and shape it once it has set.
