I am planning to set up a space (laundry room) in our basement where the walls are made of painted lecablock. Does anyone have experience with plastering or spackling painted lecablock? Is there something that adheres well without needing pre-treatment?
Unclear what type of paint it is, probably a regular wall paint.
Grateful for tips and thoughts!

  • Painted cinder block wall in a basement laundry room, textured surface with speckles, part of a renovation project.
  • Close-up of painted concrete blocks with a textured surface, likely in a basement laundry room, related to a discussion on treating painted blocks.

The easiest way would be to glue drywall onto the wall.

If it's a basement, plaster is a better choice than gypsum or filler since it withstands moisture and can dry out without problems.

One applies a våtrumsväv on top and then våtrumsfärg of course, so it gets laundry room class on the wall.

I have puttyed a painted lightweight concrete wall, it uses an insane amount of putty. But it turned out well.

Thanks for the response! Great to hear that it can turn out well. Do you remember what plaster you used?

I washed the wall and used regular wall filler. I had a large bucket left over from a previous project. The bucket was almost empty after using it on an area of 2.5m x 5m.

The filler shrinks, I don't remember if it took three or four rounds.

Too late now, but why on earth didn't they clean the wall before slapping on the paint!

They could have asked me about where I plastered. The answer is simple, I just wanted a lighter surface and was in a hurry...

That's not so good. After paint, it's difficult to use cement-based products. I would suggest full surface spackling with wet room filler before repainting if you want to smooth such walls.

I would suggest wide spackling with våtrumsspackel before new painting if you want to smooth such walls.
Maybe it was våtrumsspackel I used? It was a few years ago, so it might have been after the latest bathroom renovation they left a big bucket...

Gripprimer and wall repair mortar.
Thanks for the response! Is this something you have tested on a painted surface? Any specific primer or wall repair mortar you recommend?

Works on most surfaces, wall repair mortar is usually Lip 320 or Weber's Wallplaster Rapid. Lip is easier to work with. Initially, I fill in holes and unevenness then apply a thin layer that I smooth out on the surface.

Yes, to paint even directly on wallpaper (even though it's not recommended) as long as the substrate is secure, I usually agree with it.

It works on most things, wall repair compound tends to be lip 320 or Weber's wall plaster rapid. Lip is easier to work with. I fill holes and irregularities in the first round and then apply a thin layer which I smooth over the surface.
Thanks for the response!
