Hello!

I've been told that you need to plaster an exterior wall for it to be considered sealed. I'm wondering what needs to be done with this wall. There was previously a kitchen pantry with ventilation here. When we removed it, the wall looks like this. It's an exterior wall and seems to be lightweight concrete. I'm considering whether we should close the air intake ventilation and instead place a vent in the window next to it... but that's a slightly different question.

Regardless, something needs to be done about the surface layer. Should we plaster it? If so, what type of plaster? Can we use gypsum mortar? Or is it enough to skim coat it?

  • Interior wall surface showing exposed light concrete and removed pantry space, near a window and radiator, with some visible cabinetry and ceiling details.
I think it sounds strange that you have to plaster for the wall to be tight. Doesn't plaster breathe?

Jo puts breathes, but use 3mm C bruk.

Update! I used gypsum putty instead of regular putty because I had never plastered before and gypsum putty is supposed to be easier to work with. Turned out pretty good!
