Hello
I am going to replace the facade and am wondering how to place the cover board in the image below. Should it be placed according to the image, i.e. visible window frame joint, or should I adjust the paneling so the cover board covers the joint?

The advantage of placing the board above the joint should be that it prevents moisture from seeping in between the paneling and the window. The disadvantage I can think of is that the window will look smaller, there must be some reason it looks this way originally.

What do you think? Is there a best practice regarding this?

Window with visible joint and red-marked trim board placement discussion.
