Pipes behind old radiator, putty/asbestos?
Vacuuming is pointless if you don't have a vacuum cleaner with a very good filter that you then replace. Otherwise, whatever-it-is ends up in the vacuum cleaner and will continue to dust the next time you vacuum.
I would take a brush and carefully sweep up the mess, then wet mop and throw away the cloths.
It doesn't really matter if it's asbestos, mold, or sweat and grease. You want to get it out without it ending up in the vacuum cleaner or in the apartment, and therefore wet mopping is the best.

Sounds very wise of you!J JohanLun said:Vacuuming is stupid if you don't have a vacuum cleaner with a very good filter that you then replace. Because then the -whatever-it-is- ends up in the vacuum cleaner and will continue to dust the next time you vacuum.

I'm completely on the same page.
Vacuuming is absolutely the worst option.

It's just a bunch of speculation back and forth, and that's why I'm wondering if there's someone here who knows if this “technique” was commonly used.

Now, it's not asbestos we see in the pictures. But IF it were the case that there is asbestos behind the radiator, who would care? The landlord definitely won't care.
Isn't it dust combined with drywall sanding dust from various repainting of the apartment over the years? And maybe some organic material from flowers that have fallen from the windowsill and dried onto the pipe?S Slottsfrun said:
