Vacuuming is pointless if you don't have a vacuum cleaner with a very good filter that you then replace. Otherwise, whatever-it-is ends up in the vacuum cleaner and will continue to dust the next time you vacuum.

I would take a brush and carefully sweep up the mess, then wet mop and throw away the cloths.

It doesn't really matter if it's asbestos, mold, or sweat and grease. You want to get it out without it ending up in the vacuum cleaner or in the apartment, and therefore wet mopping is the best.

Vacuum up the dust, but if you want to feel safer, use a new bag & change the HEPA filter.
Change the filter and bag after the cleaning is done, I hope you mean. :)

Sounds very wise of you!
I'm completely on the same page.
Vacuuming is absolutely the worst option.

Can't you take a photo to see the pipe?
Photo is already out, in my post.

Probably best if you're just newly moved in to complain about the cleaning. :)

Yes, that's an option too!

No, that is completely true. Not there and can’t take a photo now, unfortunately.

Any experienced "röris" here? 😊
Yes.

I have previously posted a thread about these old pipes behind the radiator, but now I am wondering if there are "röris" with experience in old-time techniques here?
Yes.

My question is as follows:

Did they use to insulate horizontal pipes behind the radiator with gurmassa/asbestos so that the heat would not go into the wall but rather to the radiator itself instead?
That is, so you wouldn’t lose heat unnecessarily. At least that's what AI says. 😊
No.

In older apartments, I've found horizontal pipes behind the radiator with “something” on them. Most here believe it's old dust, but I don't think it looks like that. It's just a bunch of speculation back and forth, and that's why I'm wondering if there's someone here who knows if this “technique” was commonly used.
Yes. No.

I am therefore wondering if it could be old gurmassa/asbestos.

Yes, the only safe way is to take a sample, I know.
But, I still want to ask if there's anyone with experience in this here.
Yes.

Now, it's not asbestos we see in the pictures. But IF it were the case that there is asbestos behind the radiator, who would care? The landlord definitely won't care.

Why would one not care?

No, it's not regular dust.
Gently touched the material with my finger.
Got something like thin, beige, soft, plaster-like on my finger.
Isn't it dust combined with drywall sanding dust from various repainting of the apartment over the years? And maybe some organic material from flowers that have fallen from the windowsill and dried onto the pipe?

Because almost everyone does not see this as a problem, possibly just poor cleaning.
