I have a summer house built around 1970 where the patio around the house was previously covered with boards. As a result, the pier foundation was converted into a crawl space about 5 years ago.
I have now opened up, i.e., removed boards along the entire gable, see picture of how it looked before. Now the pier foundation is ventilated.
Will moisture in the beams beneath the house "dry" and mold attack come to a halt? And will any smell disappear inside the house? The inspector says I should now wait and do a new moisture measurement in the fall.

  • View under a house showing the crawl space with concrete piers, wooden beams, and scattered dried leaves on the ground.
  • Wooden deck of a summer house from the 1970s, with planks removed to reveal a ventilated crawl space under the house foundation.
What kind of ventilation do you have in the house? Is it always heated?

It has been heated year-round previously, but for the past month it's been a bit colder inside, around 16-17 degrees now during the winter.
