Hello all builders! I'm planning to build a pergola on the terrace. Approximately 4.5 m out from the house facade and about 4 m wide. I plan to use sawn untreated 105x105 wood for the frame and posts. A few questions immediately pop into my head  I've seen several different methods for joining the frame. I definitely don't want to use angle brackets!

Which joining method is best?
Option 1. Join the overlaying beams to each other, i.e., the one going from the facade out to the post with the beam that goes between the posts?

Option 2. Join the overlaying from the facade towards the post with the post?

Gluing and screwing the joint together with long screws should work, right?

Attaching the post at the bottom - I plan to attach the posts to the screws beams which are 45x145. How do I make it stable? Install blocking between the screws beams so I can screw from multiple directions? Drill and bolt or use long screws?

Post in the middle - do you think it's needed? I will have about 4.5 from the facade to the post. Should I perhaps put one in the middle as well?

Surface treatment - so I'm not using pressure-treated wood. My wife is talking about some kind of stain. What do you think about that? Oil before staining maybe? Does that work? The house facade is treated with pigmented iron sulfate, but I thought that might not be so effective against water that remains on top of the posts.

Endlessly grateful if any knowledgeable pergola builder or other professional could clarify my thoughts a bit:worried:
