I am planning to order timber for the deck in the coming days and am sketching how we should lay it according to the picture. The stones are placed with CC 60, and the joists will be 145x45.
Letting the joist extend over the last stone as shown in the picture shouldn't be a problem, right? But how far would you say is the maximum it can extend over the last stone?
If we would like to widen the deck a bit past the row of stones (to the left in the picture), it becomes trickier. Any tips on that? Is it about adding more stones and an additional joist? Or can I extend with beams? We're talking maybe a maximum of 30cm that we would like to widen it. What do you think?
Then we are considering whether to buy 120 or 145 decking boards. The deck will be just over 70m2 (6x12m). Many say that 145 looks nicer on slightly larger decks, but I'm not sure. If anyone has comparison pictures, that would be great
one more question, the salesperson at the building materials store recommended trimming all decking boards by 5cm at each end (at least) to get the best-looking result.
This is because the ends can easily look bad if they aren't already, according to him.
What do you think about that? Hardly something he said to sell more decking, but I haven't heard others trimming the ends. If it looks better, I'm willing to put in the time for this.
