Hello,

I would like to paint the ceiling in the attic white, partly to freshen it up a bit and to bring some light into the darkness.

What type of paint works for this purpose?
Is regular white ceiling paint okay, or should it be some special kind?
Or, is the attic considered an outdoor space perhaps... meaning I should use outdoor paint instead?

I remember seeing a home improvement show on TV a while ago where they did this, so I assume it's not "wrong" to do so.

I would probably block with some color first so that there aren't a lot of yellow spots, of course depending on how careful you are. Then use regular indoor ceiling paint. Otherwise, you can use oil paint twice.

Okay.

So, I could use a primer of some sort and that would be enough?
I'm not looking to get a nice finish on the surface, but rather for practical reasons to make it a bit brighter in the space...

Is it the cold attic? Meaning you want to paint the underside of the råspont and there is roofing felt on top of the råspont.

Yes, then you should probably be careful with "sealing" paints, i.e., latex, acrylic. So that moisture doesn't get trapped between the roofing felt and the paint.

Just a thought, nothing I really know much about.

go for oil paint if it's an unrenovated attic.

I would have used slamfärg or oil paint heavily diluted with turpentine

Completely right, I completely changed my mind. You should not seal in the paint. My mistake:o

Thanks for the response!

It is a roof made of rough timber boarding and concrete roof tiles on top. The attic is unfinished.

Would ÖB's (http://www.öob.se/produktexempel/farg.30.html) oil paint or outdoor primer work for the purpose, I wonder?

B
it works well up there.

Yep

Take the opportunity to mix in a mold-inhibiting substance and you will also get extra protection against mold growth.

Common diluted base paint. With white spirit. Regards Johan
