For outer corners on drywall, metal corner protectors are usually recommended. However, they require that there are indentations on the boards on both sides of the corner.
What is recommended if there are no such indentations, for example, where the outer corners are close together or when you want to face the indentation side towards another joint?

You just have to apply a lot more joint compound, think wide spreading.
Sometimes an after-installed protection can be an alternative, an L-shaped strip of wood, metal, or plastic.

Joining in with a question about angles other than 90 degrees. I'm going to plaster a corner that's around 135 degrees or so. The gap between the boards is about 1.5 centimeters. No chamfering on any of the sides. Does anyone have any tips?
There are also fiberglass strips at a 90-degree angle. I bought them at a paint store, I think it was Coloroama...
However, I've used the metal variants, spread putty with a roughly 20 cm wide spatula and it works well despite the absence of a recess. I can recommend the rollable putty from Biltema for such exercises, it's very thin and easy to get right. However, don't try rolling it, it's completely useless!
As for 135-degree corners, I would fix it as best as possible with gypsum plaster and then apply fiberglass reinforcement and putty on top. If you're skilled with plastering, you can just use gypsum plaster...

When I renovated last, I used corner protectors from Europrofil (HS 29 EA) http://www.europrofil.se/index.php?page=hs

I recall there is a foldable corner protector, which fits any angle. It is simply a straight plate about 8cm wide that has some kind of weakening that makes it easy to fold and ensures it is straight after folding.
I googled quickly yesterday but didn't find anything at byggmax. I found some other products, including a tape with reinforcement in the form of a wire, but didn't find any retailer. Popped over to Beijer and Bauhaus but they didn't have anything. Ideally, I would want a rounded corner, but I might have to settle for a sharp corner, and then Mikael L's or Stefan N's tips are handy. The search continues! 
Now the europrofil link worked too, it didn't work yesterday. I'll check it out!

After googling, linking, and driving around asking, I conclude that it's not easy to find a store that has what I need. Through none of the links above could I find a retailer that carried any corner protection for non-90-degree corners. (Not your fault! I'm thankful for the links!!!) I went and asked at Beijer, Bauhaus, Byggmax, and a couple of others. Finally, I asked at a wallpaper and paint shop in Sävedalen, and they had something similar to what Stefan N links to above, but from a different manufacturer. I think it was called Midiflex and it needs to be glued up. Unfortunately, they only had large rolls with many meters in their professional store, but they were kind enough to find a sample roll and cut off a suitable length for my single corner. I haven't put it up yet, but a report will follow!
I also think it might work for Pibben as it is quite thin and probably doesn't build as much as a steel profile.
