I built a simple shelf with plywood and 45mm studs. It holds well for heavy binders etc. This one is 100cm long and 40cm deep.

Built another shelf for storage, it handles a lot of weight. It is also built with plywood and 45mm studs.

Have some shelves in the garage made of osb; they hold but not in the same way. They sag a lot and have become warped in just a few months.

In our case, it is placed in a storage/office in the basement without any requirements on aesthetics, only function matters
Of course, it's fine to paint it.

The strength of the shelf might not be optimal, but I wanted a side support for the binders. It serves its purpose well.
