Hi, I'm not sure if this is the right place for this post, but I'm giving it a try :D
I've torn out an old bathroom where I found an old water damage, it's completely dried out but much of the wood is just "fnöske"! This is an exterior wall, I'm planning to add 45'45 framing and additional insulation to this wall now while I'm also breaking up the floor and installing underfloor heating, so here's the question, should I remove all the crumbled wood and replace it with new or is it okay to just frame over and build around this old damage?
There won't be a shower installed in this room later, just a washbasin and toilet!
What do you think? How would you have done it?
Best regards, Jimmy

I would have torn away all the junk.

I agree. It's always easier to start from scratch as much as possible during a more extensive renovation. That way, you can ensure that the angles look right and the studs are well placed. Plumb and level, etc....
