I'm working on the spring sunroom project and have a question about roof joists and how it affects the strength if you "notch out" a piece that then rests on a glulam beam. The reason is that I will have a 320 glulam with 220 joists resting on it, and I think it creates an unnecessarily high "wall" externally above the sliding sections, if you follow.
The joists span about 4 m and will have raw board and roofing felt as the surface layer.

If you have any sketches/drawings of what you have in mind, you will get much more feedback...

Okay, will try to get one into the thread.

"The strength" is proportional to the square of the beam's height. (Or is it the cube?)

Thus, the beam's load-bearing capacity is reduced to 25% if you "notch out" half.

But, as mentioned above, a drawing or a simple sketch is needed. If it's at the very end, it might be okay to cut away a little.
