Get a thicker steel plate instead.
I have built around 10 welding tables, and all with at least 20mm sheet.
20mm sheet is quite heavy. 1 m2 weighs 160 kg.

Yep, heavy is good in this case.

Rickard.
Would be a bit interesting to know the total cost for your welding tables, as 20mm sheet metal isn't exactly cheap?

I was lucky to come across an 8mm one used for the purpose and it works well, nice to be able to screw the vise directly into the plate.

Picked it up from the metal section at work :-) But that was for work.
My own at home I got from a container for a loaf of bread, I lifted it with the tail lift on the truck and got it home that way.

Montano wants around 5000 for 20x1000x2000mm hot-rolled plate...
But they are probably quite expensive...

I recommend the scrapyard.

To sell directly to the consumer, they have good prices. This applies if you pick up on site, though. Shipping heavy and/or long items is expensive.

Well, I would say that I've often paid less than their "buy a lot" price when I've bought (and paid in cash:thinking::cool: ) smaller quantities at my local steel shop... So it's worth shopping around... But if you need larger quantities and live in Bohus, there's no reason to go anywhere else....
