Hi,

During the upcoming renovation where the floor is to be replaced, an old pine floor from the early 1900s, I discovered that the original interior wall and original ceiling consisting of paneling are still in place under the drywall. In the previous renovation (not done by me), walls were framed and the ceiling was lowered over the old setup.

To access the floor all the way into the wall, I guess I have to tear down the bottom part of the new drywall.

I am deciding whether to tear out everything, drywall, studs, old paneling and start over, or try the former option of tearing out the bottom part to access the floor.

It bothers me a bit that they didn't remove the old when they installed the newer drywall walls/ceiling.

The house has settled, so the original ceiling is crooked.

What would you do?

  • Section of a room under renovation showing an old wall, exposed wood frame, new plywood flooring, and a partially removed plasterboard near a window and radiator.
  • Exposed wooden beams on a ceiling during renovation, with plasterboard and old panel visible, showcasing structural details of an early 1900s house.
