Hi!
I'm new to the forum and have been reading around a bit, but haven't found everything I'm looking for.
I am planning to lower the ceiling in the hallway by 10cm to install spotlights and thought I would use steel studs, which I've never used before.
The hallway is 1.27 meters wide and 3.7 meters long. I was planning to use 70mm steel studs, a track on each long side, and then studs with 30cc spacing all the way. What I'm wondering is if it's enough with one track on each side and then a stud in between; a "span" of 1.27m shouldn't be a problem, right?
I will also be lowering the ceiling in the kitchen and living room, which will be a significantly larger area, around 6x7m at a slight angle. What is the distance that should be maintained between the tracks? 30cc is the "screw distance," but what about those that support everything?
Best regards,
Jonas

So you don't think they can handle a span of 1.27? I was thinking of having 70mm studs that will lie directly against the ceiling with 2 long rails on the long sides and then a lot of "short" pieces with 30cc. It will be a heck of a lot of perforated tape in the ceiling if I have to screw them all in, about 15 studs in total.
Why lower the ceiling so much? If you were to install just thinner planks c/c 600 and plasterboard or whatever you prefer, concealed wiring can be used. One requirement = 12V spotlights. MX 20Watt.
That suffices. Or?
Otherwise, you should have c/c 600.

How much did you think I should lower it then? The reason I want to lower it by 10cm is that the ceiling height is currently 2.50 and the hallway is very narrow and long, so I think it would look better with 2.40, which is the standard height.
I would think like an interior designer. Choice of color, wallpaper, texture, affects the entirety. The EYE can be deceived. For example, the same color up to 2.4. The rest white. Even if you actually have about 2.47, it seems like 2.4. But the volume feels different.
Or wallpapers/patterns horizontally lower the ceiling. For the eye. But for the brain, it feels like a large volume.
I am not an expert in this. But I know that volume matters a lot. Search more about it. Maybe others here have other tips?
