I recently saw a craftsman who wanted angle profiles behind the plasterboards to, unless I misunderstood it, reduce the risk of movements as there were wooden studs + chipboard behind. It sounds reasonable to me (not a craftsman myself). However, I'm a bit unsure if it was a good idea to nail up some of these angle profiles as the nail head protruded noticeably. My (very limited) experience of working with putty on walls/ceilings is that small irregularities behind plasterboards can have somewhat troublesome consequences when puttying and sanding.
As I understand it, if you want (very) straight walls/ceilings, you need either wide puttying or there should be recesses in the "frame" behind the plasterboards where the short sides of the plasterboards meet. But even if you're not aiming for that type of perfection, it seems unnecessary to create "waves" on the boards in this way. Or am I completely off track; this isn't something that will be visible and is standard?
Edit: This solution seems to be more "correct," if it's the case that the nail/screw heads cause "waves" in the plasterboard:
