I was planning to tidy up and plaster my wall with gypsum plaster after tearing out the old kitchen. As seen in the pictures below, the wall is quite uneven with visible brick at the bottom, old plaster, plaster with paint on, and rock-hard adhesive where tiles have been placed.
I've seen plaster guides used to easily make it flat and neat. In my case, the wall is so uneven, any tips on how I can proceed? Can I leave the existing plaster/adhesive or does it need to be removed?
It depends on whether the plaster is securely attached. Gypsum plaster adheres really well to most surfaces, but wet the wall beforehand or apply primer if you think it might be loose behind. If you need a completely flat wall, plaster guides are a must; otherwise, a plastering trowel with gypsum plaster will suffice.
