I have a basement garage with 2 doors.
The doors are located right at the edge of the garage walls, and I would like to remove both doors and replace them with a standard-sized door and brick up the remaining part.
The right door will be moved about a meter to the left.
I assume this column? might be problematic if there's a joint in the sill course right here?
The ceiling height is about 218cm so there's not much space to put in a beam...
You probably have a beam above each door.
If a hole is to be moved, a new longer beam will likely need to be added if the new door is also a bit wider.
Try opening up and see what it's like above the doors.
Good luck and be prepared for surprises that always come with old houses
I would think that the doors are installed and then some matting has been placed on the ceiling and plastered over it.
The ceiling is lower in the garage than in the rest of the basement, which has a wooden ceiling, raw plank or similar.
I would guess it's wood wool or something similar that has been plastered over.
If there's a beam there, then perhaps it's nailed together with the framework of the house?
In that case, it's way too much work...
Could lower the opening to 200cm perhaps...
