Mounting strap hinges on a large door?

I will mount two hook hinges on a large door, wondering what's the easiest way to do this.

1. mount brackets on the frame
2. prop up and get the door almost where it should be, mark where the hook hinge ends up, drill and screw.

or is it meant to go wrong then... should one measure it out? anything to keep in mind?

raise up and get the door almost where it should be, mark where the catch hinge lands, drill and screw.

This is best. Raise the door exactly in place. Preferably a couple of millimeters higher, everything will settle, especially if the wood is soft.
