Mounting handrail bracket
I guess this is already resolved, but someone might come later to read the thread....
The rubber expanders shown in the picture are used for handrail mounts that don't have a plate with screw holes, but only have the round bar with a threaded hole against the wall. Possibly there is a plate without holes as well.
If you have a plate with holes, you use wood screws if you find the stud or have a wood board behind the drywall, otherwise drywall anchors.
