I am planning to build an attached garage with a mono-pitched roof and am trying to determine which roof joists are sufficient. The garage is intended to be 4.8x6m, and with a low roof slope of 3 degrees, the span for the roof joists will be approximately 4.62m. The roof will be insulated and covered with a felt roof.

Looking at Svenskt Träs lathund, construction timber C24 45x220 is stated to handle a span of 3.36m in snowfall zone 2.5 at cc 1200mm. At cc 600, the span should be multiplied by 1.4, which becomes 4.702. So can I manage with C24 45x220 with cc 600?

The reason I want to use 45x220 is that I can't build so high, hence it's an advantage if the roof doesn't build more than that in height. If not, I might have to make the garage narrower instead, depending on by how much, of course.

The trigonometry might be a bit off. The beams don't become shorter than the span... Or am I interpreting you wrong. The beams should be barely 4.81 meters with a 3-degree slope.
 
Yes, it is indeed crazy. TS will have to recalculate the span.

I was unclear, 4.8m is the measurement at the outer edge of the wall, without the outer paneling. So if the beams rest on the load-bearing edges, I'll have just over a 4.6m span.

But it's great to know that it suffices. I got a bit unsure when looking around at the sizing of glulam and found fairly large dimensions. But if 45x225 suffices, that's excellent. :)
