Moldings, movement and humidity

If you install baseboards (or other moldings) during the summer when it's warm and humid, is there a risk that gaps will appear where the molding is mitered (outer corners) when the air becomes drier in the winter?

Yes, there is a risk... Especially if they are untreated lister.

What I've heard is that wood doesn't change in the length direction due to moisture content.

But you can glue outer corners as well as nail them.

I've seen that you can buy small strong spring clamps specifically for outer corners if you're going to glue them, as glue needs to dry under pressure for the joint to be strong.
