Have a house from 1968 with a basement in a split-level design. The house has not been re-drained. When we removed the original wallpaper on the exterior wall in one of the rooms, it looked like there was moisture in some areas. However, the wall is not noticeably damp, and the basement floor is otherwise dry. The question now is how we best handle this. Attaching some pictures so you can see. Is it enough to paint with silicate paint? Or what measures are recommended?

  • A wall shows signs of moisture and possible dampness behind removed wallpaper, with a double electrical outlet visible at the center.
  • Close-up of a basement wall showing signs of potential moisture damage beneath removed wallpaper, with uneven textures and discoloration.

It might be that it only gets damp in connection with snow melting and other occasions when there is a lot of water in the ground.

Silicate paint sounds good and then arrange the furniture so that there is no stagnant air along the wall.
