I live in a house with my family - a house that we are in the process of fully renovating. For a year, water has leaked into the floor through a floor drain. The asphalt board, insulation, and floor joists were soaked. Before the vacation, we removed the wet insulation and asphalt board, plus a good margin. The hole to the crawl space has been open since then.

Our house is 30 years old and built in modules. It stands on cinder blocks, and before they started assembling the modules, they nailed the asphalt board under the floor joists. Therefore, a piece of asphalt board is still clamped under the joists. Yesterday we borrowed a moisture meter from the municipality. A measurement of the asphalt board and joists shows that the moisture content varies from 18-59 percent.

Should we look for a solution to remove the asphalt board that is clamped? Or should we seal the hole with new asphalt board and place a heater and dehumidifier in the floor cavities before measuring again and then proceed with insulating and continuing the renovation?

Or can someone recommend a consultancy firm that will agree to provide advice without doing the construction themselves?

I don't have a direct solution, but I know that right now it tends to be extremely humid in all types of crawl spaces. A dehumidifier wouldn't hurt. Personally, I would have called Aticimex and asked them for advice.

Without knowing for sure, I think that Anticimex doesn't have construction expertise in the company? They have been here once before on a different matter, but then they were more interested in selling their package solution for the crawl space than giving concrete building advice: they wanted over 150,000 kronor to rebuild the entire foundation. We cleaned up down there (removed 30-year-old leftover building materials) and asked Anticimex to return. The new inspection guy then said that we didn't need the measures the first one had suggested.

Then there is a problem. They helped me a lot.
