Hello
We are going to connect two houses and need to measure from the old house to the new house where we should open up (so it's at the same height and width).
The distance between the houses is about 2 meters.
How should we proceed? :x
/Jenny

Additional: We can't measure from the floor as the houses have different floor levels.

What do you want to get out of the measurement?

There is a fender on the old house, we are going to open up almost the entire gable end of that house. In turn, the houses (the old and the new) are going to be connected (glass corridor). It's the mounts on the new house that need to be measured out where they should be placed.
Hope you understand more now.

The simplest way is with a laser like:

http://www.bauhaus.se/krysslaser-bosch-quigo-ii.html. It provides a horizontal plane of light. From that, you can measure to the existing beam and the same measurement on the other side.

There are similar laser devices in more professional designs, ranging from 2 - 300 up to 100,000.

I had made the following poor illustration. Use a rotating laser to establish a common height between wall 1 and wall 2. Mark this. Then cut a piece of board to the same width as the opening and place it at the height of the mark. Cross-measure and adjust sideways until the diagonals are equal in length. Then you have all the measurements you need to outline the opening.
