I'm about to install 8mm MDF ceiling panel 120*30 in a room.
According to the installation sheet, it should either be screwed, stapled, or nailed with a small brad nail.
Has anyone tried a 16ga brad nailer instead? Or will the head just pull through?

Most likely too small Skull for MDF, that's why they mention wire nails. Can't you just apply some kind of glue and then fasten them on?
I have been thinking about applying some dabs of construction adhesive I have lying around.
The substrate is some form of painted "ceiling wallpaper," then masonite and underneath that, tongue and groove boards. I have no desire at all to nail small brads into the ceiling. Maybe I should rummage around a bit more in the basement and see if there are longer staples than the 10mm ones I've found for the staple gun.

Used 38mm 16Ga and it works perfectly. First took a test piece and shot it up, required quite a bit of force to get it down with a crowbar. Just need to keep track of where the electrical wires run, the stud finder marked about +/- 5cm but luckily, it wasn't where I needed to put the nail.
Yep, and don't keep your thumb too close to the nailing point. I got a wake-up call when I accidentally shot straight into a screw that was holding the batten. The nail bent like a banana and pushed out right next to the nailing point, approximately where I usually have my thumb when I press up the ceiling panels. Pure luck that it didn't go downhill...
