Hello

I need to build a wardrobe door that is approximately 65x180 in size. When I look around in different stores, like Ikea, they always have two doors for anything that is 60 cm or wider, but I would rather avoid that.

Is there any material strong and light enough to allow me to build one door that wide? MDF seems to be the most common material, but unfortunately, it's as heavy as armor.

Would thin MDF work? How thin could I go in that case? If it's too thin, it will obviously be flimsy, but maybe it could be counteracted with a wooden frame on the inside of the door?

The wardrobe frame is made of 19mm MDF and the idea is that the doors will be painted, if that makes any difference.

Grateful for any help I can get.

Have the same question. Does MDF work as wardrobe doors (planning to make 65x200)?

Particleboard, MDF, and similar materials are far too heavy for wider hinge-hung doors. The only panel material that works is plywood. The best options are pine or birch plywood since they consist of more veneers. I believe about 12 mm thick is needed. You can go down to 7 mm if you provide the door with moldings on the front, so it looks like a paneled door. For that, you can use planed pine sold at hardware stores. You can also use tongue-and-groove wood paneling of any kind if you attach battens on the back in a Z-shape.
