Hello!
I need to attach a hook in the ceiling on the first floor, and it must be securely fastened to a joist.
It is a gypsum ceiling attached to crosswise boards which in turn are attached to the joists. The problem is that this distance is too long for the 2 metal and wood detectors I have tried to find the joists.

How can I find the right spot?

Apologies if I have placed this in the wrong forum section.

No idea if it works, but if you know where the batten is, you can go and tap/press a little underneath it.
If it suddenly becomes completely solid, it might be that you are under the beam where the batten is attached,
A 1-millimeter drill bit can sometimes be used to find your way, it makes such small holes that you can often plug the hole with your nail, though many holes can result, if you drill with more than 40 mm intervals you risk passing it by.

Hmm, I'm looking for studs (actually the screws) with a neodymium magnet, available for purchase online. I usually find both drywall screws and any screws behind the drywall with it. You can tell the difference in how tightly the magnet sticks, very tight on the drywall screw, much looser on the one behind. By searching with it, you can easily find the rows of drywall screws, and possibly also the rows of screws/nails underneath that attach the battens to the joists, and through that, you know exactly how they run. I think I've got it right and that it would work.
