Now we're getting closer to moving into our first house and naturally, a lot of questions arise that we manage to solve ourselves. However, we are considering opening up this wall (plasterboard/chipboard) between the kitchen and living room for a more open layout. Is there anyone knowledgeable who knows how the load-bearing walls are usually designed/positioned in houses? The gables are to the left and right on the plan.
Best regards!
Show a picture of the gable or preferably a section.
Does the staircase lead down to the basement or up to a second floor?
If the house only has one living floor, there's a good chance that the roof trusses are free-spanning and rest only on the long walls. In that case, you can remove not only the marked wall but also all walls parallel with the gables.
The roof truss is supported by the exterior walls. Therefore, you have no load-bearing interior walls and you can safely take down any walls you want...
