Load-bearing wall?
Yes, a beam will probably solve the problem. It might become a bit bulky, possibly 315mm high as glued laminated timber, considering the span and the width of the upper floor. The house seems to have a ceiling height of 250, so that could be acceptable. Otherwise, it might have to be a steel beam instead.
Then, one must make sure that the forces from the columns are correctly placed and properly managed down in the basement and foundation. It could be around 4-7 tons per column, something in that range...

I completely agree, after seeing the new drawings, that the wall in question is load-bearing. This is also confirmed by how the boards in the ceiling were placed. However, as mentioned earlier, this can be addressed with a beam. You should, however, seek the help of a structural engineer to calculate how strong it needs to be.
If you don't feel comfortable using the program I linked to, the guys/girls at the same link usually calculate a beam without cost based on the drawing documents.
For me, there hasn't been a catch, haven't even bought it every time.
