Hi, I'm in the process of decorating a former storeroom/garage. I've now reached the ceiling. There is a sagging in the load-bearing beams that causes the ceiling to dip. Now I would like tips on how to straighten the ceiling most easily.

  • A partially renovated room with exposed insulation and wooden beams, an open doorway, and building materials on the floor and leaning against the wall.
I had bought a set of 45x45 beams and placed them next to the existing roof beams.
There are many methods to get these straight.

Hi and thanks for the response. However, placing them side by side is not possible. I have additional insulation on the outer wall, so there is no mounting point on that side. I have bought some 45x70 studs. But if there are so many ways, give me a couple so I can get started.

A laser is very useful for jobs like this. and then you place your 45x70 next to the crooked battens/studs you have in the ceiling. the new studs are attached to the old ones with screws from the side. before they are screwed in, it's ensured, of course, that the new ones are straight (:

I had the same problem and did the following: I placed a new beam next to the old one. The new beam was not longer than necessary to fit between the existing walls. I drove two carriage bolts at each end through the new and existing beam. After that, you can choose to either cut the old beam or press it up from underneath and fasten it to the new beam with a couple of sturdy screws.

Chalk line and a plumb bob you can hang on the string.
Draw a line on a wall so you have something to start from. Place the first rule and then proceed with a regular spirit level.
