Planning to install paneling in the ceiling of the living room/kitchen in the new construction. Ideally, I would like the paneling along the length of the room. But the battens have to be placed across the rafters, which means the ceiling panel must go towards the ridge if I don't want to add another layer of battens.

Will it look good with the panel direction towards the ridge?

Suggestions for another solution?

Insert a rule between the roof trusses and space out the roof trusses and the middle rule so you only need one layer of sparse and can install the panel as you wish.

Unfortunately, some ventilation interferes with the FTX system that runs along a couple of rafters, which complicates things.

How are the windows and other light sources positioned?
The best and most aesthetically pleasing, in my opinion, is for the ceiling panel to align with the light sources.
That's what we did when we built our house in 2010, and the ceiling panels in all rooms are across the house's longitudinal direction.
We only had a couple of windows on one of the gable sides, for the kitchen and laundry room, otherwise, all windows were on the long sides.

Yes, the windows are on the short sides, so I'd like to have the light along the ceiling panel.

panel against ridge but have windows in both directions

  • Ceiling paneling towards ridge with windows on both sides.

panel mot nock men har fönster i båda riktningarna
Looks good!
I have a similar corner, but with a steeper roof pitch.

  • Plastic sheeting covers the ceiling of a room under construction with scattered tools and a ladder. Large windows reveal a garden and red house outside.
