We're planning to lay parquet on our old parquet, and when we removed an old built-in wardrobe, we saw that the old parquet was built around the wardrobe and not underneath it. This means there's about one square meter of "sandbox" in one of the corners. What I'm wondering now is what the best and easiest way is to get an even surface to lay the parquet on? We've considered self-leveling compound or filling with concrete, but there might be problems getting it perfectly even.
I should add that we've run a network cable through a conduit that passes through the sandbox and then continues just under the parquet (the parquet has a routed groove).
Very vaguely written since I'm writing from my mobile, but I would be thrilled if someone has any good suggestions!
