Enclosed sunroom with tiled floor, wooden furniture, and a hammock. A person stands looking out; vacuum cleaner in foreground. Bright daylight illuminates the space.
Hello. I'm wondering how I should go about laying a floor mat in an uninsulated sunroom like this.
See picture!

I was thinking of laying joists and screwing down chipboard flooring before laying the mat.
I'm just a bit uncertain how the chipboard would handle the climate.

How would you have done it?

Or could you even fill the joints with sand and then lay the carpet directly on top?

I know there are carpets made for outdoor climates.

That solution was in my brother's sunroom when he bought the house. It smelled terrible when the doors had been closed, so we tore it up. The whole thing was rotten and moldy.

Hm thanks for the input.. I guess you're referring to the solution with studs and boards?
Then maybe it's better to lay the carpet directly on the stones

Yes, exactly. The mat directly on the stones is safer, I believe, but at the same time, I think with that solution, you will feel and see the stones through the mat quite soon… I guess you don't want to reinforce and cast?

Can't you put plastic tiles between stone and mat to get insulation against the stone and some breathing space for the mat? It's probably easier than battens/boards and builds less height.

This type I'm thinking of:

That was a good idea! That's probably the way to go..
Thank you for that!

Check out bergo and see if you can find something that works without an extra mat on top. They have, for example, had a slab that is essentially smooth on the top side.
