Hi, I'm considering knocking out part of a wall in the garage to access the house.

Some info.
90 sqm basement
90 sqm living area (above the basement)
Built in '63.

Here comes a great drawing that I made in paint.
Hand-drawn floor plan of a garage and basement, with an arrow indicating the wall to be removed for access into the house.

Where the arrow points, I want to knock out. The ceiling in the basement is apparently cast in one piece, so I assume everything down in the basement is semi-load-bearing - but it should withstand a small hole, right?

I plan to hire a contractor for it, but thought it's best to check before calling them in case it's completely impossible.

(and knocking out a hole door-sized - how expensive should it be if you hire a contractor?)

Which direction are the rafters positioned?

The roof trusses are hopefully on top of the ground floor or the 2nd floor.

Without responsibility, I say it should be fine to open up a doorway; you already have several doorways, and it's surely not reinforced above them.

Find it hard to imagine that they cast a vault that is only 10 cm, because there are so many load-bearing interior walls - but you should never be sure, as there was a lot of experimentation in the construction industry in the 60s and 70s.

Check in the stairwell how thick the vault is. If it is 20 - 25 cm thick (like today's vaults are), I see no problem with creating a doorway. It would be a dangerous house you live in if the entire vault's strength depends solely on that wall, where you’re not even supposed to make an opening from floor to "ceiling."
