Thank you for your tips and ideas.

I haven't really thought about the health aspect before, and I also believe that regular road asphalt can give off an unpleasant smell for a long time. When you walk on a newly asphalted road, you can sense a "sharp" smell, which might not be so nice to have in an apartment.

I was thinking about cold asphalt:

The description says it can be used indoors. Could you not mix in gravel/stone and get something that resembles road asphalt? I don't need any of the properties of "real" road asphalt except for the appearance. I'm also considering having a glass panel on top, as I think it would be tricky to achieve an even and smooth surface with epoxy.

I was thinking you could lay out a layer of transparent silicone and then a tempered glass panel on top of that?

Build "upside-down" by pouring/spreading the asphalt on the glass sheet to ultimately place sheet metal or whatever it will be as support, or rebar? It should be easier to achieve a smooth surface this way. Testing with a small glass sheet first to see how it turns out is probably easiest.
