That's exactly how it looked in certain places at my place. As the previous writer mentioned, I am completely sure that it's dirt from drafts. A house from '65 with the same kind of insulation.

But if you want to be completely sure, take a sample for your own peace of mind.

The dark wool is stone wool, rockwool, and the lighter is glass wool. The stone wool is likely the original and the glass wool from a later additional insulation.
