Hi! I'm renovating a room in my apartment and I'm unsure how best to proceed with this wall (see picture). It's a concrete wall that previously had wallpaper, but now I've removed most of it.

I'm considering trying to soundproof it a bit, as quite a lot can be heard from the neighbors in the adjacent apartment. However, the room is quite small, so I'm afraid of building out too much.

I’ve heard of two options:
  1. Installing studs with insulation (e.g., mineral wool) and one or two layers of drywall.
  2. Applying two layers of drywall directly on the wall (with Green Glue or something similar in between?).

At the same time, I wonder if it's even worth it in such a small room? Is it better to just skim coat the wall and apply renovation wallpaper instead?

What would you experienced carpenters recommend in this case? Are there other solutions I should consider that don't build out too much but still dampen sound somewhat?

Thanks in advance for all the input!

  • Concrete wall with partially removed wallpaper showing rough surface texture; room corner visible.
  • Concrete wall with patches of old wallpaper removed, showing uneven surface. Consideration for soundproofing and renovation options are being discussed.
  • Concrete wall with partially removed wallpaper, showing uneven and chipped surface; renovation project in progress.
