This comes from a ventilation duct to an old pantry. The inside of the duct appears to be cork and the white feels like plaster with a reinforcement of straw. The house is from '37.

  • A piece of an old ventilation duct showing cork interior and white plaster with straw reinforcement, from a pantry in a house built in 1937.
  • Close-up of insulation from an old pantry vent, showing cork and straw-reinforced plaster, with a textured surface.
Probably not, take a few pieces and send them off for testing if you're worried.

difficult to assess, try burning the strands, if they burn it's likely fiberglass or similar, at least not asbestos.

Far too coarse to be asbestos. Hard to see in the picture, but it looks like some kind of natural material?
