Limestone? Feels like it anyway. However, difficult to see in the pictures you've uploaded.

I think it's asbestos, but I don't think the dust is asbestos dust. It's more like skin flakes, hair, textile fibers, and other disgusting things.

They don't get cold and don't feel as hard as stone slabs. They sound kind of like wood when tapped. The problem is that I don't know how fiber cement boards feel to the touch. Here are two more pictures

A dark countertop surface, possibly made of composite material, with visible marks and reflections near a window. A dark countertop surface with a smooth and slightly matte finish is shown in close-up, likely a synthetic material resembling stone.

If you're paranoid, wipe with a damp cloth, which is then thrown in the trash. The possibly extra small amount of asbestos in the ash of a large incinerator doesn't really matter.

Hehe well I wouldn't say I'm paranoid in that way... that would be an exaggeration. Rather, I don't trust careless colleagues, suddenly one day they're there sawing into the crap... it would have been nice if it was some other material :)

If there is suspected asbestos, it should be investigated before work begins, to ensure the correct protective measures are in place. Here, it would probably have been sufficient to ensure that the boards are not broken, sanded, or chipped (if it is eternit). As someone previously noted, contact the safety representative.

When it comes to professional handling, there are quite a lot of regulations regarding asbestos (for better or worse...), so it might be good to check with, for example, the safety representative about what applies before anyone starts working on the boards.

It is also obvious that someone once sawed these to install the valves that you see in the pictures. It was sawed with little or no finesse... are there still fibers and asbestos in the edges that are released after this sawing, or has it sort of aired out? Damn, there's something about the "sneakiness" of asbestos that is creepy. Now I'm thinking that these poorly sawed edges are leaking asbestos :surprised:

Asbestos is not a poison that is released from the material in any way. Drop the note before it makes you sick...

What do you mean?

Asbestos particles are in the air around us everywhere 24/7 so you can probably go back to sleep when it comes to particles just from that board......Asbestos is still a natural product, albeit dangerous when processed and the concentration of particles becomes very high.

Everyone who took the subway before 1986 would be dead now if asbestos were deadly, the concentration of asbestos dust from the brakes was fairly high at the stations.
All of us who changed the brakes, knocked them off with a sledgehammer, and cleaned them with compressed air would be even deader.

Those who worked with asbestos all day and smoked are dead now.
