As the title suggests.

I have 2 stoves in the living rooms, but have this in the basement where there is no stove.
Not sure if this is an intake for an old stove or a large hatch?
And the upper one is old ventilation for the chimney? (Yes, this is my first house...) :blushing:

I would like to continue the wall that goes at an angle to hide pipes and mess.
I was thinking of putting an inspection hatch there, but it would be at a 90-degree angle to see or insert anything.

I have a "chimney sweep hatch" in the attic, so this might not be necessary?

Thanks in advance.
Best regards / Tobias

  • Old chimney vent and access hatch with gray pipes in a basement wall.
From what I've heard, the soot hatch should be under the last flue connection, so the chimney sweep can remove all the soot from the chimney (but I might be wrong). However, there's nothing stopping you from moving the hatch to the left in the picture, and closing the old hole.
