As the headline states. Anyone with an experienced eye who can tell if there is asbestos in these pipes?

Our old basement pipes that are to be connected by a plumber, but I don't know if they would even touch them with pliers.

  • Close-up of old wrapped pipe, possibly containing asbestos, showing frayed insulation material in a basement setting.
  • Old basement pipe with damaged insulation possibly containing asbestos, showing frayed fibers and cracked surface, next to metal pipe.
  • Close-up of old basement pipes with damaged insulation, showing fibrous and frayed material, potentially asbestos, under worn outer wrapping.
  • Old basement pipe wrapped in fibrous material possibly containing asbestos, partially exposed revealing pipe underneath, against a wall.
Looks clearly suspicious in a couple of the pictures.
Submit a sample if you want to be sure.
Most plumbers probably require cleaning first.
It's allowed to do it yourself, but be careful.
